CMES offers two affiliation categories for Visiting Researchers: Visiting Scholar and Fellow. If you would like to apply to the program, please review the affiliation descriptions below. Please be sure to read about the Application Process before beginning your application.
Please note: CMES Visiting Researcher positions are unpaid academic appointments.

Individuals may hold this annual appointment for no less than three months and no more than two consecutive years, pending renewal by the CMES Steering Committee. Part-time appointments or non-consecutive appointments for a fraction of a year will ordinarily count as a one-year appointment in determining eligibility for renewal.

GSAS Special Student Status
The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) arranges Special Student status to those who apply and are qualified. Special Students bring a broad range of experience and backgrounds to Harvard and their reasons for participating are similarly varied. Some students wish to strengthen their academic background before applying to graduate degree programs; others wish to change the focus of their studies and choose Special Student status as an opportunity to explore new disciplines. Special Student status is also appropriate for individuals seeking personal enrichment or career advancement.
Special Student status is arranged through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Special Student Program, not CMES. For further information and to apply, please consult the GSAS Special Students Program site.
