A.J. Meyer Fellowship

The Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University offers scholarships in the amount of $3,000 for Harvard undergraduate students who will enroll in a full-time intensive Arabic language summer program in an Arabic speaking country. Absolute beginners will not be considered. Preference will be given to undergraduate students who study the Arab world and have at least one full year of formal Arabic at Harvard. Awardees must be enrolled as students at the time the program takes place.

Upon the completion of the study sponsored by this grant, the student is required to present a two- to five-page report on their study/research to the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, including an accounting of how the funds were spent. 

Funding is contingent on acceptance into the summer language program.

Application includes:

  • Proposal of no more than 750 words outlining the project you hope to undertake and the rationale for pursuing it in your destination(s)
  • Current 1 page resume
  • Current transcript (unofficial grade report)
  • 1 letter of recommendation from the most recent language instructor
  • Documentation of enrollment in Arabic language program in Arabic speaking country

Other Eligibility Requirements: High intermediate level of Arabic
