Riaz Howey’s dissertation project addresses premodern New Persian agricultural texts and the claims they stake to contain knowledge. At CMES, he is working on a chapter on manuscript circulation between 1300 and 1600 CE in search of evidence to understand the classification of agricultural knowledge and to support or challenge modern constructions of agricultural "traditions." Riaz Howey is a predoctoral fellow in the working group "Agriculture and the Making of the Sciences" at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, as well as a member of the Institute's doctoral school. He is registered as a PhD candidate in Islamic Studies at the University of Bonn. He completed an MA in global history at the Freie Universität Berlin in 2020.
