M. Fatih Calisir

Trained as a historian of early modern Ottoman cultural and environmental history, M. Fatih Calisir received his PhD from Georgetown University in 2016. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked as an assistant at the Topkapi Palace Manuscript Library and the Istanbul Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam. In addition to several articles on early modern Ottoman cultural life, he has published a monograph on Mehmed I, edited a book on the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent (with Suraiya Faroqhi and M. Sakir Yilmaz), and translated three books into Turkish. He is the founder of the Bilkent Historical Society and the Turkish Society of Environmental History, and the main organizer of the biennial international Süleymaniye Symposia (2018-). He is currently a full-time faculty member at the Istanbul University Institute of Islamic Studies and a part-time faculty member at the History Department of Ibn Haldun University.
