Aya Khalaf was a Lecturer of Arabic at the TAFL Center for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, Alexandria University, from 2016 to 2024. She also worked as a lecturer of Arabic for non-native speakers in the summer program ARANAS at Al Akhawayn University in Morocco. She has been a full certified tester for oral proficiency by the American Council for Teaching Foreign Languages ​​(ACTFL) since 2020. In addition to participating in several research projects with foreign universities related to second language acquisition, she has also joined several training workshops in the field of teaching Arabic to native and non-native speakers.

She participates in the training of teachers of different languages ​​to know the basics of the communicative approach in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. She also participates in preparing educational materials in Modern Standard Arabic (beginner, intermediate, advanced), Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (beginner, intermediate, advanced), Arabic literature, Arabic media, Arabic cinema, political and social issues in Egypt and the Arab world. And she creates and collaborates with colleagues to create tests according to the guidelines of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.

She obtained her PhD in modern Arabic literature in 2024 from the Faculty of Arts at Alexandria University.
