Ashley Koca

AM Candidate in Regional Studies—Middle East

Ashley Koca studies the art and architecture of medieval and early modern Iran and Armenia. She is interested in theories of reception, particularly as they relate to questions of the use and reuse of shared motifs, material, and architectural morphologies across confessional lines. Her current work focuses on aesthetic cosmopolitanism and anxieties over communal integrity through New Julfa's All Saviour's cathedral. In addition to the sacred spaces of Eastern Christianity, Ashley is interested in Shi'i socio-religious structures, and shrines in particular. Ashley earned her BA with honors from Cornell University in 2025. There, she studied the history of art and Near Eastern studies as a Robert S. Harrison College Scholar. She was the Watermark Identification in Rembrandt Etchings (WIRE) Project intern at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum from 2022 to 2025 and was a 2025 FLAS fellow in Persian.
