Professor Roy Mottahedeh Has Passed Away

The CMES community mourns the loss of our dear colleague and friend, Professor Roy Parviz Mottahedeh, who passed away on July 30. As a renowned scholar of Islamic history, Professor Mottahedeh inspired generations of students during his more than 30 years of teaching at Harvard University. He was a seminal figure in the field who generously shared his vast knowledge and provided guidance to fellow scholars through his groundbreaking books and articles. A memorial service celebrating Professor Mottahedeh's distinguished career as a teacher, mentor, and colleague will be held in late October, with details to honor his life and legacy to be announced.
