Professor Eric Chaney discusses his research on Islamic institutions and economic development

Eric Chaney, Assistant Professor of Economics at Harvard University and a CMES Steering Committee member, focuses his research on economic history, applied econometrics, development, and Middle Eastern history. In a podcast on Vox, he discusses his research on the evolution of institutions in the Islamic world and the relationship with economic development. Among other things, Professor Chaney discusses the rise and fall of Muslim science and the balance of power between religion and state (din wa dawla). The interview was recorded at the annual congress of the European Economic Association in Glasgow in August 2010.
