January 28, 2016

CMES Visiting Researcher Saime Ozcurumez presented a webinar titled "Politics and Policy of Immigration and Asylum in Europe," on January 25, 2016

Ozcurumez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, and focuses her research on migration policy and politics in the EU, Turkey, and Canada. This webinar centers on Ozcurumez’s questions, “What are the origins of a common immigration and asylum policy in Europe?” and, “Why do European countries respond differently to the immigration crisis?” This presentation was part of the monthly webinar series for the Globalizing the Classroom Fellowship Program organized by the Global Studies Outreach Committee at Harvard University. The Globalizing the Classroom Fellowship Program is comprised of a select group secondary and community college educators from across the United States engaging in an extended professional development opportunity with the Global Studies Outreach Committee and the educational group Project Zero. This webinar was part of ongoing conversation and training that began with the August 2015 teacher workshop "Global Migration in the 21st Century: Understanding How and Why People Move."
