CMES affiliates win Harvard teaching awards

CMES alumnus Leonard Wood (PhD '11) has been awarded the John R. Marquand Award for Exceptional Advising and Counseling of Harvard Students from the Harvard Undergraduate Council. Given to a handful of outstanding tutors, fellows, and other undergraduate advisors each year, the prize is “awarded to a staff or faculty member who contributes to the quality of undergraduate life and education…[with a] focus on each candidate’s skill and generosity in advising, counseling, and helping students.”

Wood, who is currently pursuing a J.D. at Harvard Law School, teaches Arabic language classes as well as the popular Arabic 162 and 170 (Introductions to the Modern Arab World I and II), which are offered in both Arabic and English sections. This spring, he was elected Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Business Law Review.

Also this spring, Wood and seven other CMES affiliates received teaching awards from Harvard's Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning for courses taught in Fall 2011. The Bok awards, which are based on student-submitted course evaluations, are given to honor outstanding teachers.
