Alumnus Ahmed El Shamsy wins MESA Dissertation Award

At the 2009 annual meeting of the Middle East Studies Association (MESA), CMES alumnus Ahmed El Shamsy (PhD, 2009) was honored with the Malcolm H. Kerr Dissertation Award for Humanities for his dissertation “From Tradition to Law: The Origins and Early Development of the Shafi’i School of Law in Ninth-Century Egypt”. Established in 1982, the award recognizes exceptional achievement in research and writing for/of dissertations in Middle East studies. Two awards are given per year, in the categories of Humanities and Social Sciences.
