CMES Director's Series presents a screening of

Heads and Tails (2019)Heads and Tails film
A documentary on traveling hair

A film by Aylin Kuryel and Firat Yücel

Heads and Tails (Baştan Başa, 2019 Turkey) chronicles the curious hair trade between Turkey and Israel. Two Turkish-Israeli women, Coya and Sima, buy the tails of hair from male hair traders in Izmir, Turkey and sell them to wig makers in Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan and Bnei Brak. Orthodox Jewish women cover their heads with the wigs made of hair that once belonged to women from Anatolia. In this journey, the hair is turned into a commodity, a means of living and source of beauty, and becomes kosher, yet it doesn't pay much to its owner, the one who carefully grows the hair. Following the screening, the directors will be present for Q&A.

Directed, edited and produced by Aylin Kuryel and Firat Yücel. (In Turkish, Hebrew and Ladino with English subtitles). To see a brief clip from Heads and Tails, visit this website and click the "play" button: http://film.iksv.org/en/the-38th-istanbul-film-festival-2019/heads-and-tails.
