Dr. Gal has completed her doctoral studies at McGill University achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.80. Given her background in counseling with Jewish immigrants in Montreal, Dr. Gal is interested in exploring the intersection between childhood political trauma with immigration stress. After her doctoral study examined the long-term impact of childhood trauma in adult Jewish immigrants to Israel who experienced the military dictatorship in Argentina, her postdoctoral study expands her inquiry by looking at intergenerational trauma transmission, never before studied in this context. Since her graduation Dr. Gal has submitted and published book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented papers in national and international conferences.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Gal was asked to contribute her research expertise and to co-author a special report for the Prime Minister of Israel. This report focused on the specific mental health and welfare issues experienced by women from diverse cultures in Israel. Changes in policy were suggested and implemented. During the pandemic, she also initiated and conducted two studies focused on the impact of COVID-19 on mental health.

Following Dr. Gal's academic performance, the originality and potential contribution of her research to the fields of trauma, mental health and immigration, she has recently begun a full-time research appointment as a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Harvard University.
