CMES Wins SSRC Grant

CMES, in partnership with the Davis Center and Asia Center, was recently awarded a Social Science Research Council (SSRC) grant to work on expanding media understanding of "Islam in Context." The project focuses on encouraging academics and journalists to share information on the diverse historical, geographic, and social contexts in which Islam and Muslim communities exist.

CMES Receives Grant from MacArthur Foundation

Muslims after 9/11: Political Participation and Civic Engagement was awarded a generous grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to examine the political and civic integration of Muslims in the United States and Europe in the post-9/11 environment.

The study is being carried out under the direction of Principal Investigators Steven C. Caton, Director of CMES and Professor of Contemporary Arab Studies, and Jocelyne Cesari, Director of CMES’ Islam in the West Program and Visiting Associate Professor of Islamic Studies at the Harvard Divinity School.

Richard Foltz's (CMES, 1996) book, Religions of the Silk Road, has recently been published in Turkish (Ipek Yolu Dinleri, Istanbul: Medrese Yayinlari, 2006) and in Persian (Dinha-ye Jadeh-ye Abrisham, Tehran: Entesharat-e Fararavan, 2007). His book Spirituality in the Land of the Noble: How Iran Shaped the World's Religions, has been published in Arabic (Al-Ruhaniyyat fi Ard al-Nubala: Kayf Athart Iran fi Adyan al-'Alam, Beirut: Dar al-Arabiyya al-'Ulum, 2006).
