AM Candidate in Regional Studies—Middle East
Sultan Althari

Sultan Althari recently graduated cum laude from Boston College with a BA in Political Science and a concentration in Islamic Civilization and Societies (ICS). During his time at Boston College, Sultan’s studies centered around public policy, political philosophy and the socio-economic development of the Middle East. For his senior thesis project, Sultan analyzed the correlation between Saudi youth empowerment and national development by employing both quantitative and qualitative methods. Sultan surveyed over one thousand Saudis ranging from policy makers to undergraduate students, thereby revealing statistically significant differences between perceptions according to survey variables (gender, age group, employment sector). During his time at Harvard, Sultan aims to acquire a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of Middle Eastern politics, regional challenges, and historical context, while developing a unique skill set for a career in public policy. As a proud Saudi, Sultan established Harvard’s first official Saudi Student Association: a University-wide group dedicated to increasing cultural awareness about Saudi youth and the Kingdom more broadly. Beyond Middle Eastern Studies, Sultan is passionate about non-profit organizations, ontology, nutrition, and fitness.
