Sami Alkyam joined the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University in the Fall of 2012. Sami studied Arabic, Anglophone, and Francophone literatures at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received his PhD. He also holds two master's degrees, the first in applied linguistics and the second in African languages and literature. Sami’s current research interests include Arabic and African literatures, Francophone literature and postcolonial studies, literary theory, culture, and film. Before Joining NELC, Sami served as the director of the Middlebury Arabic Summer Program at Monterey, California. He has also taught Arabic language and literature classes at UW-Madison and Beloit College.
