Reilly Barry
Reilly is a first year AM student coming from Georgetown University where she graduated with an Honors History degree and minors in Anthropology and Turkish. She has studied abroad in Turkey at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul as a recipient of the American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT) scholarship from the U.S. Department of Education for further advanced Turkish language training. While at Harvard she wishes to pursue Persian alongside Turkish to develop a comparative study of Turkish and Iranian foreign policy. She is especially interested in the intersection of language and politics, and its use in state creation and identity. Reilly’s academic research will continue to focus on this relationship between the state and language policies, comparative studies of the Turkish and Iranian nation-state creations in the 20th century, and re-envisioning U.S. foreign policy toward these countries from a historical standpoint. She has also worked as the managing editor for the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs.
