Hessam is originally from Iran but has lived in Boston for the past 8 years where he did his Ph.D. in philosophy at Boston College. Last fall, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Divinity School. In February 2020, he presented a paper titled "Following the Laws in Islam: A Phenomenological Perspective" at CMES. His particular area of concentration is the phenomenological experience of the laws from the perspective of the followers. He seeks to understand how this experience co-constitutes the identity of the followers and the laws at the same time.
