Hamad is from Doha, Qatar, and graduated from Drexel University with a degree in Civil Engineering (Honors). His academic and research interests include: the political economy of Arab Gulf states, GCC-Iran relations, tribalism in the Arabian peninsula, the role of Islamic and cultural traditions in community development, and political Islam in the Middle East.
Upon graduation, Hamad worked for Qatar Foundation. He helped run a number of capacity-building programs in Qatar, examined science, technology, innovation (STI) public policies in Qatar and served on Qatar’s National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science. Hamad also completed a 5-month research internship at Brookings Institution - Doha Center.
