Eleanor Takenaka Ellis is a first-year AM student in Middle East Studies. She graduated summa cum laude from Whitman College with honors in Race and Ethnic Studies. She has previously studied Arabic at the Qasid Institute in Amman, Jordan, the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, and, most recently, in Cairo. Her research interests include translation, national identity, collective memory, gender, and urban space. She speaks Spanish and Egyptian Arabic (as well as some Levantine), and is continuing to study Modern Standard Arabic.
