AM Candidate in Regional Studies—Middle East
Dutton is a first-year master's student in Middle Eastern Studies. He comes to Harvard from the University of Washington, where he graduated with honors in history. His research interests include Iran, U.S. foreign policy, and the Arab-Israeli conflict. Dutton studies Persian, and at CMES he hopes to better understand how in the years following the 1979 Revolution the Iranian regime consolidated its power at the expense of its more liberal and secular co-revolutionaries. His previous research has focused on political negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, Orientalism in U.S. foreign policy, and why U.S. efforts to procure peace between the parties have failed.
