DESCRIPTION:<p>A Middle East Beyond Borders graduate workshop with</p><p><strong>Pegah Zohouri Haghian</strong><br>CMES Fellow, Harvard University<br>DPhil student in Oriental (Middle Eastern) Studies, University of Oxford<!--break--></p><p>Abstract: The paper analyses the socio-historical processes that led to the emergence of reformist Muslim intellectuals in the English speaking academic and public sphere in Europe during the 1990s. More precisely it will attempt to understand the relationship between their agency - in promoting their understanding of Islam in the academic and public sphere - and the structural, socio-political context in which they act.
