Dimitris Kastritsis is currently a Dumbarton Oaks Fellow in Byzantine Studies, on leave from the University of St Andrews in Scotland where he is Lecturer in History. He earned his PhD in History and Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard in 2005. His first book was entitled The Sons of Bayezid (Brill, 2007) and is a study of the Civil War (or Interregnum) of 1402–13, a period of crisis that produced some of the earliest Ottoman historical literature in existence. This includes a narrative that has survived as part of a compilation known as the Oxford Anonymous Chronicle. Having already published that narrative separately, he is currently preparing an annotated translation and study of the entire chronicle (expected 2014). He has also published several articles on diverse aspects of Ottoman political, cultural and intellectual history. He has an advance contract with Harvard University Press for a comprehensive study of the Byzantine-Ottoman world in the period 1354–1453.
