A historian of the modern and contemporary Middle East, he is the author of two books, the prize-winning <em>Interlopers of Empire: The Lebanese Diaspora in French West Africa</em> (2014) and <em>Lebanon: A Country in Fragments </em>(2018), a study of post-2005 Lebanon.
