The Journal for Middle Eastern Policy and Politics presents journalists
Coverage of the Middle East in the American media is often biased and harmful. Why? What are the specific challenges that journalists who write about the Middle East face in translating -- literally and metaphorically -- stories for American and anglophone audiences? How do journalists respond to these challenges -- and how should they? What are their moral responsibilities? Join the Journal for Middle Eastern Policy and Politics (JMEPP) and four journalists, Jonathan Guyer, Michael Petrou, Izzy Finkel and Sharaf Al-Hourani for a conversation about the task of translating and covering news on the Middle East in an age of misinformation.
These four journalists have written extensively about the Middle East for audiences in the United States, Europe, Canada, and the Middle East and have written for such publications as Guernica, Harper’s, the Los Angeles Review of Books, The New Yorker, the New York Times, The Paris Review, Rolling Stone, OpenCanada, the National Post, iPolitics, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and Time. The Journal of Middle Eastern Politics and Policy is an online policy journal, published at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Founded in 2011, JMEPP presents cutting-edge analysis on the contemporary Middle East and North Africa. We’re committed to presenting new perspectives on pressing problems, addressing complex issues with insightful analysis, and exploring emerging trends shaping the region.
