CMES Research Associate Dr. Sara Roy and her book *Failing Peace: Gaza and the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict* (Pluto Press, 2007) were recently added to the [NYTimes.com](http://NYTimes.com) in-depth section on Gaza at [http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/international/countriesandterritories/gaza\_strip/index.html](http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/international/countriesandterritories/gaza_strip/index.html) Dr. Roy’s work concerns the Israel-Palestine conflict and she is widely regarded as the leading world expert on the political economy of the Gaza Strip. In her earlier work, *The Gaza Strip: The Political Economy of De-Development* (Institute for Palestine Studies, 1995), she coined the term de-development to describe a deliberate policy of scaling back economic growth in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli military occupation.
