 

#  CMES associate director Susan Kahn publishes chapter in &amp;quot;The Boundaries of Jewish Identity&amp;quot;

Susan Kahn, Associate Director of CMES, is the author of a chapter in the recent book [*Boundaries of Jewish Identity*](http://www.washington.edu/uwpress/search/books/GLEBOU.html), Susan A. Glenn and Naomi B. Sokoloff, eds. (University of Washington Press, 2010), an interdisciplinary look at the question of Jewish identity. Dr. Kahn's chapter, "Are Genes Jewish? Conceptual Ambiguities in the New Genetic Age," addresses this question from the perspective of genetics.

Dr. Kahn's research interests include the anthropology of the Middle East, medical anthropology, kinship studies, and animal studies. She is the author of *Reproducing Jews: A Cultural Account of Assisted Conception in Israel* (Duke 2000), which won a National Jewish Book Award, as well as the 2001 Eileen Basker Memorial Prize, awarded by the Society of Medical Anthropology for outstanding research in gender and health.
