 

#  CMES announces call for proposals for its 2014–2018 NRC Grant Application

The Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) invites faculty from across the Harvard community to submit proposals for possible inclusion in its application to the U.S. Department of Education under Title VI for renewal of its status of as a National Resource Center for the AY 2014–2018 period. It is anticipated that the Department of Education allocation for this cycle will be approximately $1.2 million to cover program expenses, course development, language fellowships (FLAS) and training. CMES encourages new projects from disciplines and fields of study that support research, teaching, and outreach activities that focus upon understanding the diverse cultures and issues of the Middle East region. Special consideration will be shown to proposals that broadly fit within the Center’s three overarching themes on Arab literature, arts, and politics.

**Proposal Details**

Interested faculty are asked to submit a proposal of no more than two pages that addresses

- project goals and intended outcomes,
- plan for implementation,
- timeline with rationale for sustainability, and
- a draft budget.

Project budgets may be multi-year, and should not exceed $40,000 for the four-year (2014–2018) cycle. Title VI funds cannot be used to support student travel, general research (except conferences or workshops), or entertainment.
