This portion of the workshop is open to the public. It will take place at CMES, Room 102, 38 Kirkland Street.

*“Subterfuge and Deception in the Pre-Modern Mediterranean”*  
a workshop consisting of three pre-circulated papers with comment by the audience:  
• **Argyro Nicolaou** (Comparative Literature, Harvard University): *Narratives of Deception and the Pre-Modern Mediterranean Imaginary*  
• **Fred Astren** (Jewish Studies, San Francisco State University): *The Gibeonite Gambit: Harranians, Karaites, and Khaybari Jews on the Margins of Medieval Islamic Society*  
• **Karen Pinto** (History, Boise State): *Masking Conflict with Harmony: The Two Faces of the KMMS Mediterranean Map*  
  
and our featured scholar:  
• **Thomas F. Glick** (History, Boston University): *Deception and Subterfuge: A Medieval Miller in Court*  
  
**Saturday, March 5, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm**  
*A round-table: “Harvard on the Mediterranean: A Conversation with Graduate Students”*  
Moderated by Brian Catlos & Sharon Kinoshita  
  
The program is free, but space is limited. Registration *is required* for Friday and Saturday; please register no later than February 12. Lunch will be provided Friday for registered participants.
