# The Middle East Beyond Borders Graduate Workshop Featuring Arafat Razzaque and Kimberly Wortmann #### calendar\_today Date and Time **February 18, 2014** 06:00PM - 07:30PM EST #### pin\_drop Location **CMES, Room 208, 38 Kirkland St, Cambridge, MA** **The Middle East Beyond Borders: Culture, Religion, Politics**, an interdisciplinary graduate workshop is pleased to present **Arafat Razzaque**, PhD student, History/MES "Scandalous Knowledge: Transgression, Social Reputation and the Construction of a Moral Community in Medieval Baghdad," and **Kimberly Wortmann**, PhD student, Committee on the Study of Religion "An Intellectual Cartography of the Medieval Western Sahel (c. 1464-1627)" **Copies of these papers will be available electronically**; email student coordinators Bethany Kibler (Anthropology/MES), , or Mary Elston (NELC), for a copy. “The Middle East Beyond Borders: Culture, Politics, Religion” workshop aims to foster an interdisciplinary community of scholars whose research and diverse expertise will help generate new methods, language and frameworks through which to engage the past and present of the region, ongoing developments and their global repercussions. This first session will be a great chance to meet other students researching in Middle Eastern/Islamic Studies and to get a sense of how the workshop works. We welcome participants from all disciplines.
