Associate Professor, Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient, Berlin Dr. Nazan Maksudyan received her undergraduate and MA degrees in Political Science from Boğaziçi University and her PhD in History program from Sabancı University. She continued her research in Berlin with the postdoctoral scholarships from the Wissenschaftskolleg and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Her research focuses on the history of children and youth during the 19th and 20th centuries. Her publications include *Orphans and Destitute Children in the Late Ottoman Empire* (Syracuse University Press, 2014), *Women and the City Women in the City* (ed.) (New York: Berghahn, 2014), “Orphans, Cities, and the State: Vocational Orphanages (Islahhanes) and ‘Reform’ in the Late Ottoman Urban Space”, *IJMES* , 43 (2011) and “Foster-Daughter or Servant, Charity or Abuse: Beslemes in the Late Ottoman Empire,” *Journal of Historical Sociology*, 21 (2008).
