Tunisia Summer Arabic Program

The Center for Middle Eastern Studies will offer a four-week Arabic study-abroad program in Tunis, Tunisia, from May 20 to June 20, 2024, led by Dr. Nader Uthman, Director of the Modern Language Programs in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. The Arabic course is taught by Dr. Amr Madi, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and focuses on standard and spoken Arabic; it will meet for three hours each morning from Monday to Thursday. The program will include tours of sites with major historical and cultural importance, as well as cultural activities organized by the Tunis Office.

The program is intended for students who have two to three years of prior study of Modern Standard Arabic and who focus on North African and Middle Eastern studies. Participants must be enrolled as students at the time the program takes place. Students graduating in May are not eligible. Please note this is not a credit-bearing course. A stipend will cover travel, room, and board expenses.

Applications must be submitted through CARAT. To apply, submit:

  • A brief (250-300 word) description of your program of studies
  • A copy of your latest Harvard grade report
  • A letter of recommendation from your most recent Arabic language instructor
